Hey, friends!
Substack has recently introduced a feature called “Sections,” which allows a writer to create different mailing lists associated with distinct topics. I wanted to take advantage of this feature by writing a more personal, journal-style section on homemaking.
The new section is called The Huntress At Home Journal!
You can locate this new section in the navigation bar under the heading “The Huntress At Home Journal.”
The journal will be updated weekly with my homemaking endeavors and thoughts on my progress toward the goal of living a more “from-scratch” lifestyle, as I like to call it. I explain more about this in the first entry: Ch. 1: In which Huntress takes heart & buys bougie pizza sauce.
The Spirit of This Journal
Yes, these entries are titled as if I were A. A. Milne sending Winnie-the-Pooh on another trivial adventure through the Hundred Acre Wood. Or Miguel de Cervantes rerouting his imaginary hero after a fight with a windmill. That’s because when I stand back and look at my life from an outsider’s perspective, it feels that way. I love to highlight my misadventures for others if for no other reason than to make them laugh and to laugh at myself.
Up until now, you’ve probably known my writing to be very serious, academic, and even somewhat mystical (in the biblical sense of the word). But you should know, that’s only my personality if you haven’t heard me talk about normal life.
As serious as we should take our faith, everyday life is not that serious. Little laughs and joys can be uncovered under every rock along your journey, whether you feel like you’re walking to Mordor or just to Piglet’s house.
My mission is to build an archive of just such moments as I’m learning to embody a sense of fortitude, to work more with my hands and less with theories, and to embrace the slow rhythms of antiquity over modern convenience.
How to Subscribe to The Huntress At Home Journal
If this sounds like something you’re interested in, you will have to subscribe to this section manually. Keep reading if you don’t know how to do that.
Because my main Substack (All Things Testify) is about theology, and that’s what all my subscribers initially signed up to receive newsletters about, I do not want to assume this content is something everyone will be interested in.
If you are already subscribed to my Substack, you will not receive newsletters from this section unless you manually subscribe to it.
Manually subscribing is very easy. Just follow the instructions1 and screen shots below:
Navigate to your account Settings page via www.substack.com/settings. Or when logged into your Substack account, select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
Under Subscriptions, click on the publication that has sections you'd like to subscribe to.
(Click on All Things Testify!)On the next page, slide the toggle next to each section you want to receive notifications about.
(Slide the toggle “on” on “The Huntress At Home Journal.”)
If you decide to subscribe to this section, that’s cool. If not, that’s cool, too. I love both kinds of writing and I’m glad the option of having both in one place exists on Substack now. Not only that, but being able to cater to two different readerships without interfering with either’s preference?? I’ll take it.
See you in the stacks,
Huntress
